I found that the Soldiers at the Soldier Readiness and Resilience Center (SRRC) demobilization Reserve RSOI ask the wrong questions about suicide. "Are you thinking of hurting yourself?" is not what you are trained to ask when you are a trained Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) Caregiver. I even asked to speak to a supervisor and informed them they were asking the wrong question. I explained you should be asking, " Are you thinking of ending your life by suicide?" A person that is having suicidal ideation do not see "hurting yourself" as something they are planning to do, but actually relieving themselves from pain as "Helping." Hmmm and how many thousands of Service members had already demobilized/out-processed from active service there? Did they change their practices after my observation and comment? I do not know.
