Yeap, tell the truth. I actually worked myself out of a job within 3 weeks of starting, I went in trying to front load the work as I saw a ton to get done, I did an exorbitant amount of work in the 3 weeks I was there (DFS setup, Print server for 9 national locations, new backups, new Exchange server, new security suite, massive antivirus changes, established WSUS updates across all locations for updates, established a SDC, etc, etc, etc) and the boss called me in his office the first day of my 4th week and said: "you have done what I envisioned as 5 years of work in 3 weeks, I can no longer afford to keep you on at the rate of pay your receiving when you did all I expected for years to come." This was followed with a thank you, and sorry you left your previous position you held for 4 years but we are a smaller company and we got what we expected much quicker than we anticipated. It hurt, and it put my household in a tailspin but it's not exactly something that's bad for the next employer once you explain the layoff or getting fired! It however does not look that great if you don't get the opportunity to explain your situation!!!!
