It’s not about you (veteran); it’s about what you can do for me (employer). Serving in the military is a fantastic and honorable experience but doesn’t make a lick of difference to an employer. You must articulately translate the skills and knowledge gained in the military into something the employer can see as helping them solve their problem or furthering their mission. Until then, veteran status is merely a demographic check mark (think Wal-Mart initiative to hire 250,000 veterans)!
