My time in my younger life was my glory years. I was a Soldier, a Sailor, a cop, a fireman, an EMT, and a contractor. Most of my life has been in public service. I have served in 3 wars, 4 if you count the Cold one.
We all get older and we start to fade. Sure we should not just sit around and talk about your, "When I was in the Army,....." (Especially if you only served 4 years), but I never forget the fun times. Now I sit a a desk for most of the day, I am fat, the front of my head and the back are trying to meet, and I have to squint when I look at the computer screen. This is not how I thought I would end up.
Even with all the old guy stuff coming along and the realization that this is not my glory years, I still make a difference. I volunteer with USACares, a vet organization, I still serve on the volunteer fire department, and I still tell the shit out of some war stories. So my time in service to my country is my glory years and I am proud of it.
