Why are the Marines lowering the standard?
The MC is instituting 23 pullups as 100% for men, and 10 pullups as 100% on the PFT for women while opening the Infantry MOS, when before 20 pullups was 100%.
Why not have female Marines already in the Marine Corps adopt this new standard, in order to ease into the requirements, but NEW recruits be held to the same standard as men for the 03XX fields?
----
“I will never lower standards," Mabus said during an April 12 town hall at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. “Let me repeat that: Standards will not be lowered for any group! Standards may be changed as circumstances in the world change, but they'll be changed for everybody.”
“You do not lower standards. Ever. I will never lower standards. I will never lower standards. Let me repeat that. Standards will not be lowered for any group,” he said. “Now standards may be changed as circumstances in the world change, but they’ll be changed for everybody, not for any group. - Mabus

I will tell you right now...I can do a flex arm hang all day, even now that I'm out of the Corps...but there is no way I can do 10 pull-ups...I remember when the running portion of the female PFT standard was raised from 1.5 miles to 3 miles...it didn't change overnight, we knew it was coming so our command had us to run 3 miles during our PFT's but only timed us for the first mile and a half of it so that by the time is was mandatory for us to be timed for the 3 miles, we were used to running it...I'm not sure if I explained that correctly, but either way, the bottom line is this: the Corps has never and will never lower it's standards...and saying that they have is just wrong, in my humble semper fi opinion.

That's not lowering, that is raising. They also made it so you can't get 100 points for the flexed arm hang (the previous poor standard). Other standards were also adjusted based on historical data and overall, both tests are now more difficult.

MALE Marines need to do 23 for 100%, Female need to do 10 pull ups. There is not one PFT standard other than 1st, 2nd 3rd class or fail. Infantry is no longer 100% male. The standard was raised for males to 23 for pull ups, an increase of 3. The pull ups for females is now mandatory so that is a total increase for them to 10. This is not lowering standards. HQMC sets the standards you have to meet, not the MOS. Yes, you have pass screening to make the cut for MOS school, but that is way better than years ago when the 105 pound 5'5" bean pole reporting into the Bn for assignment as a tanker, where upper body strength is required. Again, your point is invalid as HQMC sets the standard.

The pullup standard for an infantry MOS is 6 pullups. That is all. That is literally the amount you need to achieve, male or female, to be assigned an 0300 MOS out of bootcamp. The maximum is different but the minimum standard is the same. The minimum standard is the passing standard. Everyone should aim to max it out, but the military functions on passing requirements, and the minimum passes.
So again, the standards were raised. In fact, the minimum requirement was raised for both men and women. Prior to this year, there was no additional standard for any MOS. Men could be assigned an 0300 MOS doing fewer pullups than females are required to do now. If you still interpret this as a lowering of standards you clearly aren't reading it properly.

10 pull-ups for females is a lowering of infantry standards. I could do 20 pull-ups and ran 290 to three hundred oft and at times the infantry was hell on me.

10 pull-ups is not the standard for males or females. The standard is 6. For both. There are different standards for maxing the PFT but no one has ever had to max it to become a Marine or earn an MOS, you just have to meet the minimum. The 6 pull-up standard is an increase over the basic PFT standard, so when you were in the infantry the standard was actually lower.

Being a slippery politico Mabus could rationalize that the standards have not been lowered, or could turn around and justify why they have been changed without lowering them. At the plt level about you can do is get up on the bar and do as many correct pull-ups as you can
