Are 11C Soldiers assigned to Armor and Cavalry units authorized the CIB if otherwise qualified?

Given that the regulation specifically states "assigned to an Infantry unit", do 11C's that are assigned to the Mortar Platoon or Section of an Armor Bn or Cavalry Troop not meet this requirement, or does their mortar unit (platoon or section) constitute as an Infantry unit? Does not effect me, but am curious to know how this is ruled on.
(1) The Soldier must be an infantryman satisfactorily performing infantry duties.
(2) Must be assigned to an infantry unit during such time as the unit is engaged in active ground combat.

Yes I was Cav my whole career, yeah yeah teack mounted eat me i recieved my CIB an was authorized in 05

Lol! I can't get over 'teack mounted eat me'... Damn aotu correct. Ha hah... Well sometimes it does work properly, sometimes not.

They are. The unit itself doesn't matter. It's the MOS I was 11c and in a cav unit and wore badges

Was that something only in Vietnam? 4 men on an M106 4.2" mortar, all 4 are 11C's whether they are the driver, gunner, squad leader, asst. Gunner. Serious question: Were you even 11 series? BC little of what you are saying throughout this whole thread is accurate nor makes sense, you just seem to be denying anything and everything on peoples comments that you can.

defintely not a 11 series. Trained in OCS at Ft Benning and received commision as a Combat Engineer. worked withInfantry units and read regs well and knew lots of Grunt types. There are MOS for various pieces of equipment drivers and crew members. you just stated. one of the places my Hq was was lt Lai Khe at the same time you were. I Spent over 32 months in the area on two different tours. You said you did 11c and 11b jobs te rule says you must have the Infantry MOS on your records. I had a Enginerr officer friend that served as a Inf Company C. O. received a Silver star and Purple heart but No CIB as he was never awarded an infanry MOS He was a 1330 just like me

CPT William Jones -The direct fire weapons is from reg interpritations. Their eing generally two types of weapons used in an infantry engagement, Direct fire like fifles Claymore mines that sort of thing then indirect fire like artillary.rockets bombs and that sort of thing So sitting in base camp cleaning gear or getting ready for an outside the wire and have rockets drop in No CIB doing the same thing and have a ground attack on Camp using all of the previous or just some of it and you shoot back at the emeny troops attacking CiB fr all infantry troops involved but no CIB for all other troops involved as they were no Infantry MOS qualified.
