I know i shouldnt be able to get much information about this, but im gonna try to get some at least. I was informed by another individual that his rasp instructors said that there is a good chance of being placed in a shop somewhere for 21b. Its hard to find good information on the realities of what i will be doing when i make it into the regiment. I dont expect to be constantly jumping out of helicopters or blowing things up, but i dont plan on going in to an elite unit just to be somebody elses job either. Now I am realistic, so i do figure i will be doing that very thing sometimes. But im wondering how much actual combat engineer work i will doing on a daily basis. Thank you for your time on this.

Good question. By the way, I'm tracking that the current MOS for Combat Engineer is 12B, not 21B.

You’ll end up in E co. More than likely building structures and doors for breaching and training. You’d work for the battalion master breacher and engineer (Ssg/SFC and CPT). You would get a chance to go to Ranger and Sapper school then master breacher. But, in all honesty we never took the engineers out on target cause we have our own eod techs on every mission. But you never know what will happen. Are you trying to reclass as a engineer and go to batt? If you stay 25U I can guarantee that as long as there’s a war you’d get to go on target as an RTO.

I went in foolishly the first time and took whatever they gave me. Im more mature now, and i understand now that i dont want to continue with commo. I understand its importance, but dont believe i will be happy doing it. If im going to go back in, then im going to go in knowing exactly what im getting into doing exactly what i want to do......at least job wise.

Why would a combat engineer be in a shop, if their job is to eliminate obstacles, etc?
