If you like being isolated in the middle of nowhere, you will love Ft. Leonard Wood.

I have assigned there three times. The surrounding area is good for outdoor activities. There are wineries close buy and if you like antiques there are plenty of shops/markets within a 20 to 40 minute drive in either direction. Waynesville has some okay places to eat. My wife and I would go to Rolla or Lebanon to eat as well. Both are short drives. Lake of the Ozarks is great during the summer. They have a nice resort out there. We spent a lot of time in Springfield and it was cheaper for our family to fly there than to fly into FLW or St. Louis. We did not visit St. Louis much because it is a two hour drive and traffic is crazy. During Christmas time there are various light displays on the St. Louis area so we would take our kids and grandkids. From 2002 to 2017 the area has improved alot. Leaders are working to have bigger businesses to the area. Like with any duty station the FLW area is what you make of it.

I take it you have a support mos reason why being stationed at Fort lost in the woods. I used to always tell my privates especially the ones coming from OSUT don't act like a trainee act like a soldier now there will be tons of NCO's especially Drill Sergeants around and chances are most of them will think you are a Trainee. Remember the basics about being a soldier and do your job and move on. I always felt bad when young soldiers got stuck never leaving a Tradoc command for there first PCS. Remember Tradoc is totally different then the rest of the Army.
