Things have changed a tad since my last deployment in 2013, but you can usually expect a ton of phase work, workorders for various tasks, and typically any of the DART missions.

So far all we have been training on is base defense, but that doesn't make much sense for me as a Romeo. And the fact we're going to a pretty cold (conflict not temperature) area.

Just because an area is cold conflict wise doesn't mean there's still not a likely hood for danger or conflict. There are people in all corners of the world looking for an opportunity to inflict some sort of damage on the US Armed Forces. That being said, everyone goes through the "Green training" where you learn about ECPs, Check Points, Biometrics, etc, etc.

During the train up for our last deployment we had a finance detachment piggy backing with my flight company and we both had to do all of that stuff even though it was irrelevant to our primary mission. If SHTF everyone is going to be grabbing a rifle.

ASB:
15R PVT-SPC: 125-500 hr maintenance. Possibly some opportunities for cross training as a 15T or 15U depending on the need. Definitely details like guard duty or bus driver. Downed Aircraft Recovery Team (DART). Part of a personnel work order team attached to the ASC.

Deployment is a great opportunity to take some of those maintenance additional duties and really get them locked tight, such as TMDE, Benchstock, toolbox and SKOT accountability. During a deployment you will usually concentrate the bulk of your efforts to aircraft maintenance.

Depending on the strength and experience of your PC, QC, and Command you may see the focus shift. Stronger PC more maintenance, Stronger QC more focus on maintenance organization, Stronger command team more focus on whatever they feel is most important. It works best if there is a balance and mutual respect.

SGT-SSG: Same stuff, you will just be in charge. If you are a technical inspector you can gain a lot of experience on backshops (airframe, powerplant, prop/rotor, etc).

If I could do it all again I would set some goals and create a list of things to accomplish for the Unit, professionally and personally. You might find yourself with a lot of time on your hands.
