My NCO and Det. Sergeant have just counseled me to advise that I will not be attending any schools until a long-standing temporary profile is lifted, even if the school were to in no way violate the profile. This seems contrary to guidance provided in AR 350-1, however, I may just be "regulatorily" ignorant. Is there something I am missing? Does a temp. profile really create a career quagmire?

Based on how I read the regulation, you may have (albeit slight) a chance at challenging the decision. But....first and foremost, contact that school house and see what their stance is on temp profiles and attendance. Get the answer straight from the horses mouth. But also be aware that according my OPS NCO at my BN, he states that NO Soldier with a temp are authorized resident schools (and he does this all day every day).

350-1 only tells some of the story... Look up the course your interested in , in ATTRS . Look at the prereqs there, look at the requirements there. If you are not excluded by what you see in txt, send an email to the POC listed and ask the direct question, leave no doubt at what your asking. Fewer words are better and ask only the one question. Be brief, concise, clear and complete. Wait semi patiently for a response, if you dont get one in 7-10 buisness days, send the same email again....if you dont get a response inside a week, call, try to "find" the poc already emailed, and thanking them for thier time and apologizing for having what must be the wrong email address, as you had sent the question twice.. You want that person or another associate to help, so now is not the time to chastise for not responding to your email.

All that said.... a lot of years sending folks to school, several years running the 1CD schools program ..... SM with temp profiles did not go to resident schools... Not saying it's not possible, just was never the case in a lot of years and thousands sent.

The detachment sergeant most likely wouldn't act without the CO supporting it. Overcome your profile or get a permanent and continue serving if not separated. Otherwise, financially it doesn't make sense. Long-standing is relative, can you take a full record APFT?

CPT Gonzalez,
Significant improvements have been made, so a permanent profile is unlikely to be prescribed. As for the APFT, currently I am only authorized the push-ups and the stationary bike as my alternate running event.
