1ACB is the only Aviation brigade in Fort Hood that mean we busy, but I won't change it for any other brigade in Fort Hood, when it comes to take care the soldiers and family the Brigade in general do a superb job.

CW3 - Sorry you didn't see it all. Officers weren't immune either. There was a 1ACB CW2 who was off-post wearing his POW during a planned pro-gun event in Bell county. Police questioned and detained him but no charges were pressed. Our fearless BDE commander (COL Mindenhall) PRESSED the 1CD CG to give him a GOMAR. Don't ask how I know, but I was in a position that I could verify these events and facts.

BTW - The CW2 received the GOMAR from the 1CD CG and was involuntarily separated.

Totally agree!

1st Air Cavalry BDE (1ACB) at Fort Hood Texas was a unit that received many QMP notification letters. This started around 2012. The BDE even had the highest attrition rate of CPT's from the RIF board in 2014.

I was in the unit from 2010 to 2015 (1st Air Cavalry Brigade -1ACB). The Air Cav BDE had many depressed Soldiers who were suicidal during that time period due to the toxic leadership from the brigade command team.

We had just returned back to Fort Hood (June 2012) and finished a year long deployment from Afghanistan and the BDE command team led by COL John Novalis changed over. COL Cory Mindenhall and CSM Chris Amagliani took over and morale in the BDE plummeted! Mindenhall and Amagliani were directed by FORSCOM to get rid of Soldiers for minor offenses such as missing a medical appointment. The Army was downsizing and commanders and CSM's were told to chapter people out for the smallest of reasons. The BDE command team gave no leniency: You missed several formations - gone! You failed one PT test - Gone! Several speeding tickets on post - Gone! An Officer misses two meetings - Letter of reprimand (career killer) - Gone!

Our BDE Chaplain, MAJ Shabazz, had MANY late nights with depressed Soldiers, NCO's, and Officers due to the horrible command team influence of COL Mindenhall and CSM Amagliani.

COL Mindenhall is still a COL and likely won't see a General's star. CSM Amagliani was forcibly retired about seven months later when he wasn't selected for a to be a CSM of another unit.

Fort Hood is my best assignment yet and I was in Hawaii for some time. Here you will have endless career opportunities as well as a whole lot of things to do in your off time. Outdoors, huge cities just a short drive away, and many historical sites. If you dont make yourself better here and have fun doing it is because you are purposely trying not to lile it. Good luck to you in your new assignment!
