My son (USMC Corporal) is in MSG training at Quantico right now. For SGT and below they must be single, no exceptions. Det CDR (SSG and up) can be married.
For those assigned to the Embassy DAO or JUSMAG accompanied/unaccompanied requirements will vary depending on Embassy location.

That sounds about right, or at about as much as I know. I do know that if you are Marine, its darn good thing to have on your SRB. Also, any Marine who has had the privilege of doing it said it was an outstanding experience. IDK how it works out for the army, but if I was you I would be seeing these comments as sign to DROP THE ZEROS AND GET WITH THE HEROS-Lat move to USMC! Since none of your boys had anything to share! PO1 Brian Austin - that's outstanding! Like I said I have heard a lot of good and I don't think it's too easy to get into either. Common sense will tell anyone, that a Marine wishing to do this position would have to "A J Squared Away" and cannot be weak in areas of knowing general orders and advanced security SOPs. As well being proficient foreign policy. Don't want any "yahoo" that has slipped thru the cracks some how, representing our country or giving a negative appearance of our beloved Corps. So with that I say, YOU SHOULD BE DAMN PROUD OF HIM!!! I'm sure you already are as was my father of me. Hope it's everything he wanted it to be and then some! Tell him Bearkat said if they let you choose where to go, most definitely AUSTRALIA!!! LOL doubt they will but you never know. Semper FI

I know a few Embassy Marines that have their family with them, but from what they tell me it depends on where the Embassy is located determines if their families can be there with them. I am not sure how it works for Army. SFC (Join to see)

Only the Marine Corps does Embassy Guard, as a member of the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group. The formal and permanent use of Marines as security guards began with the Foreign Service Act of 1946, which authorized the Secretary of Navy to, upon the request of the Secretary of State, assign Marines to serve as custodians under the supervision of the senior diplomatic officer at a diplomatic post.
I believe the Army serves at Embassies as part of the Army Defense Attache System.
The Defense Attaché System is an arm of the Defense Intelligence Agency tasked with representing the United States in defense and military related matters with foreign governments around the world. Defense Attache Offices (DAO) operate from U.S. Embassies in more than a hundred locations globally. DAOs are composed of both civilian and military employees, most of whom receive specialized training at Joint Military Attache School before their appointment.
Families are allowed to accompany on the assignment but that may depend on the location and threat levels.

Just to add. Every branch of service has members working at Embassies. Of course you don't typically find a Sailor at a landlocked country and you don't have a Soldier or Marine at every Embassy but the big embassies often have every branch represented. It depends on our level of engagement with that country.
