Getting stationed OCONUS??

I will be finishing my 68c school in 2021, and I really would like to be stationed in Germany, if not, korea. I heard that getting stationed in korea is not that hard, but what about Germany? I've put Germany on my wish list on ASK and will be calling the branch manager during phase 2. But should I call them before or after I get my assignment? And is there anything more I can do to up my chance to be in Germany.

Also, I heard that if you go to korea, you only get to stay there for a year, is that true? and as a person with 6 years contract, do I only stay in a single duty station that I'm first assigned to?

Thank you in advance and happy new year.

I can not tell you how hard it is. It all goes by chance. In my class of 30 graduates, only 4 of us went OCONUS. 1 Hawaii, 1 Germany, 2 Korea. I had projections to go to Madigan but because a portion of my class was held over in Phase 1 due to too many students, I ended up losing those and got orders to South Korea.

Class before us had 7 OCONUS and 22 graduates.

Currently, South Korea is a 1 year tour unaccompanied, meaning you don’t bring dependents. If you do bring dependents it’s 2 years your. You will have the opportunity to extend for extra pay if you’d like as well. In the future, they do plan on changing Korea into a 2 year tour unaccompanied and 3 years accompanied.

Also don’t call a branch manager, you’re going to get hung up on. You don’t have that kind of authority to boss the army around nor beg. Just focus on completing Charlie school first. We started with 75 people and ended with 30. It’s difficult. Good luck.

Thanks for the answer. But why did your assignment change when ur class was held over in phase 1? I thought you get your assignment order at the end of phase 2?

SPC (Join to see) so my original class was 18-007. We had 50 finish in phase 1 but could only take 25. So 25 of us had to stay for 18-008. Because of this, we were still attached with 18-007 and received a projection on ASK earlier than everyone. We didn’t graduate for about 1.5 months after the previous class meaning there was no way we would be able to report in time if we got actual orders so they were sent back and we were give New ones.

Got it, and do you know if you can request for assignment after your tour in korea or is it random. And as to calling branch manager, my friend who just graduated from ait said it worked for him and many other people who were unhappy with their assignments.

SPC (Join to see) I’m going to be honest, I’m not to familiar about getting your Orders changed. We did have 2 soldiers who were able to change their orders due to Family issues when moving, and because the other had requested to be sent back to Bragg when he re-enlisted. Other than that, any one who even thought about changing was given the fat no.

I wouldn't call branch. I don't want to chance getting sht assignments next time around. Also FYI we have a new branch manger. The last one was cool, I'm just not sure about the new one. Also, currently, if you do get stationed in Korea you will not be in Seoul, you will be in one of the "provinces" since the garrison in Yongsan just closed last Nov. Nobody can guarantee that you will get stationed anywhere (unless Fort Polk). Keep on asking your AIT S1 if they're cool. They usually try to get you what you want.
