It is a much overlooked skill. It helps in being able to communicate concisely and at a high level. Much of misunderstanding, both on the part of the sender and the receiver, is due to not being able to parse sentences as intended.

I haven't explicitly used that skill since attempting to read some philosophical and medieval religious arguments during college, but it is something that becomes ingrained into your reading habits.

We still teach this skill in our high school. I did learn this when I went to school. I was taught it again when I went to college by our French professor. It did improve my understanding on how to become a better writer

Sentence diagramming was one of the most horrible experiences of school. I still remember the fear and loathing I felt at the time and still do at the though of doing such. Retained absolutely nothing from the experience except unpleasant memories.
