What happened: The New York Times wrote about a new scientific study on plastic pollution in the ocean and compared its findings with those of a previous study. There was a slight discrepancy:
Why it matters: That first study was widely reported by the sorts of media outlets that want people to panic about climate change. (Practically all of them.) "Humans are putting 8 million metric tons of plastic in the oceans — annually," the Washington Post warned.
• Both studies are probably wrong. The so-called experts have no idea what they're talking about, especially when it comes to "science." The Earth is massive; its climate is complex.
• Do we really think the people who said it was safe to march for liberal causes but not conservative ones are smart enough to figure it out and honest enough to tell the truth?
• More importantly: Who cares? Everything is going to be just fine, probably.

Science is not factual. It is a process that demands we challenge facts, all facts. Authoritarians forbid us to challenge their facts in the name of Science. Can you see the contradiction there?

Science always changes. Within the philosophy of science r here are some assumptions that make science work. So far science seems the best handle on reality. That being said, science gets abused.

Recyclers send millions of tons of plastic "recyclable" to third world countries to basically dump it on someone else, because there is no economic way to profit from recycling. Those third world countries just dump it in the ocean to keep from damaging their environment. Everyone knows this is happening, but we keep on using plastic to package EVERYTHING. Turn a blind eye on something just because it contradicts your main talking point about recycling.
I have a customer that has a unique system to burn the plastics to power generators that we provide, that powers their plant and sells power to the grid, so hopefully at some point smart companies will follow suit and work toward a better future.
