Does anyone know the reasoning behind only being able to wear 1 badge from Group 1 OR Group 2?

This was one of the changes in 670-1. It used to be you could wear one from each group, now you can only wear 1 from both. There was no explanation for this. Any ideas?

it's hard to say. Exclusivity couldn't be a part of it. groups 1 and 2 represented badges for the two larges mos's in the military. it's not to say they can't be earned simultaneously, just not worn. I wonder if it has something to do with the inclusion of the CAB as a group 1 badge. I received a CAB in baghdad because i was with an MP company and didn't qualify for the CMB. I later earned the CMB with an infantry battalion in afghanistan. does one negate the other? What about allowing an infantryman/medic to wear both the expert badge and the skill badge for the MOS?

I am trying to figure this out myself. I have earned the EFMB, along with receiving the CMB and CAB due to multiple deployments. I have long worn with pride the CAB and CMB since they are both from different groups abiding by AR 670-1, but now according to this new one, I have to take off one of them. When it is time for DA photo, the photo will not be correct with the ERB since different groups are not on the photo.

I was awarded my CMB in Baghdad circa late 2004. Why this award is a "catagory" 2 while the CIB, EIB, and the CAB are catagory 1 awards is beyond me. The CMB was created in the later stages of WW2 and retroactively awarded to people whose qualifying actions transpired back to 12/6/1941 (I.E. Pearl Harbor). I was in an artillery unit functioning as an light infantry unit for my two years in iraq. We conducted a staggering amount of patrols, air assaults ect. Right in line with the infantry battalions in my brigade. I know it doesn't really mean anything, but I feel my service was no less honorable than those who have received the CIB, or the CAB. Also, there is no logical explanation as to why the EIB is above the CMB. I know, I know don't try to make sense of 670-1 I'm just saying WTF OVER!

As this situation would only affect current/former Medics, I'm not sure why this is an issue. Aside from it being a change from the old regulation.... Maybe I have a somewhat jaded opinion simply because i'm not authorized any group 2 badges, but; Is it really "fair" to the rest of the force to have medical badges have their own group? Effectively we've eliminated group 2 altogether (by limiting the wear of but one for group 1 and 2 collectively).

If it was meant to be fair, we would give one to everybody. Both the EIB,EFMB are meant to be a challenge to earn, they are supposed to identify those who have become experts in their field. The CIB/CMB are also supposed to be less difficult to earn.
However, over the last 10 years I've seen a vast change, Command Sergeants Major are more concerned with the passing %s of their BNs IOT earn the EIB streamers. I've watched units award CIBs to everyone in the BN by blanket orders including rear D pax.
On the Flip side, I've seen the EFMB become harder to earn, many more badge protectors there. I've watched medics denied CMBs because they were "off duty" or awarded CABS so the entire patrol got something.
That being said, when I earned my EIB less than 10% of us passed.
