Looks like the frame for a canvas turret cover. Might be too long though. Looks like the frame for a canvas-something...

Had not considered a bow for a gun turret gondola. Looked like a bow for canvas, was having trouble figuring out something that narrow requiring a canvas bow.
5ton wreckers used to have a gondola that may have used something like this. I think the FMTV wrecker doesn't have such a thing.

My expando van didn't have any rail on the steps (of course it wasn't really complete when I got it).

SGT Herbert Bollum - The expando's i used in field artillery and logistic units had them. But you are correct that some were missing and needing to be replaced.
