As a Chief Engineer on a DDG, who walked all of my spaces everyday, there are so danged many places that he could have hid out. But, not without help. I expect a few CO masts to be forthcoming... At least he is safe. I have done too many of those searches at sea that aren't successful.

LT Brad McInnis - Yes, I am active. We still have float coats which have the MOBI transmitters in them. The Kapoks do as well. Their MOBIs have a foot long antenna that is snaked through the vest. I guess we could issue those to every crew member.

I guess what I meant to say was a smaller MOBI device that the Sailor could wear around on his belt.

SCPO (Join to see) - I don't remember our coats having xmitrs. I do remember them talking about a belt worn one. It does seem kinda crazy that as high tech as the Navy is, that our best chance of finding a sailor is launching helos and doing SAR search patterns.

LT Brad McInnis - Not sure when they became mainstream. My second ship 06-08 didn't have them, my last ship 11-15 did. There is an alarm panel that goes off in the pilot house that also shows the serial number as well as a unit that shows the relative bearing. The RHIBs also have the bearing display.

Your response is to be expected -- most people who've never been on ships don't realize the sheer number of nooks and crannies there are on them, especially big ones. A determined Sailor can easily hide that long....BUT. Someone was helping that guy. Food and water. So there's more to this story.

Plenty of nooks and crannies down in one of the engineering spaces. The real question is who helped him stay down there for a week, bringing him food and water.

Note: Might get a better response if you change the "NAVSEA" tag to "Sailors"

SN Greg Wright - Yeah, and charge his iPhone. That had to be boring as hell down there for a week.

SCPO (Join to see) - Watch, he didn't plan for the extended exposure to the noise, and now he'll have a VA claim for damaged hearing. You heard it here first!

SN Greg Wright - Not sure if he could claim anything if he didn't have double hearing protection.

SCPO (Join to see) - My faith in the VA is limited. I have a friend who gets a monthly check for Gulf War Syndrome...and he never set foot in the Gulf. I hope you're right, of course.
