Can anyone give pointers on what to look for in a good employment recruiter? Or Headhunter type person? How can I find and enlist the services of someone like this? To help me find a job as I transistion? I'm not lazy, I just don't know how to sell myself without coming off like arrogant a$$. I'm a hard worker, but where I live, I'm new to the area and wish to enlist the aid of an employment recruiter or headhunter type person. Assistance or tips will be greatly appreciated.

Lucas Group and Orion are good; I had nothing but trouble with Bradley-Morris. Try connecting with others in your MOS/career field here and on LinkedIn. There are a LOT of headhunters and job-posters there. If your on LinkedIn look me up at http://www.linkedin.com/in/stephenhester and send me an invite. My email is [login to see] . I'll be happy to help if I can.

SFC (Join to see) great question! RallyPoint is partnered with The Transition Center which is a 100% FREE service to our members to help them walk through the key steps to figure out transition and which employment routes to take. They do a great job at helping to coach members through the next steps. Check them out here: https://www.rallypoint.com/organizations/the-transition-center-the-transition-center-llc/overview

Try to get into contact with your local employment office, usually called something like a One-Stop Job Market or American Job Center. They have vet staff available that could help you with this and it is a free service. Usually you can find links for it on your states department of labor's website. The vet staff can help with things like interview skills and resumes as well as having a really good picture of what the local labor market looks like.

There's no local vet employment office in Afghanistan. I'm trying to secure a job before I get home and am done with my leave. Thanks for the tips though, I'll look into finding that office when I get home.
