I was stationed at Kadena from 02-04, so some of my info might be dated. Kadena was awesome! If you're an ocean person, there is tons of swimming snorkeling, deep sea diving and such. The cop shop dorms were some of the best on base and were the only ones with generators during typhoons. It used to be if you were single and under a SSgt then you were living in the dorms but that might have changed. There is a lot of fun local culture but you need to get pretty far away from the base to experience it.

I was never stationed there but had a few buddies who were I was there on a visit. If I remember right its similar to lakland in that theres on and off base, base housing. My buddie said though that because of how expensive it is in Japan if he hadn't been married he would have stayed in the dorms for sure. Ive been out now 13 yrs and it was 15yrs ago i was last there a lot can change.as far as the job goes SF is SF until you get into specialty bases like nuke or high security base. Japan is a lot of fun so enjoy it
