I was an artilleryman for 7 years before my unit was disbanded and redesignated. Almost everyone had to re-class. I reclassed as an 89B3O. I loved arty, and still do. But, as a Self Propelled arty chief, I would never have gotten some of the experiences I was able to enjoy as an 89B. Yes, ASP and office work can be tedious. But, if if you've got a good crew, anything can be made into a game and be fun. There is something fun about blowing excess ordinance. There's something fun about a bird above your head while performing sling-load ops.

It can be fun, exciting and intense during deployment.

I did 6 years in the reserve as an 89B I learned a lot, but on the civilian side all I am qualified to do is warehouse work, so become an NCO and learn all you can about the job then you can at least be a lead or a supervisor.

Well I'm out now. This response isn't accurate at all as I found out. The military opens many doors if you know where to look and how to use those door to open up and even wider range of jobs. I'm about to start my process of applying to CPB.

To answer your question in my whole 8 year contract (been out now for a year and half) I never got the opportunity to deploy. I kept getting kicked off the lists for deployments, but at lest the reasoning wasn't shitty. For my unit (and I can assume it's the same for most others) they kept a strick 50/50 balance of Green guys and Guys who have deployed at least once in this MOS. I would get on the list, and 5 months later get notified that i was removed because there wasn't enough people on the deployment vets side.

I guess i didn't explain that I was reserve, not active. I don't really know what AD is like in the MOS if that's what you're asking

Edit: Oh I guess i did in my original comment. My bad.
