I have orders to Drill School in January, but I just got an email saying I've been disqualified because of a DUI back in early 2012. I thought they only went back five years? Should I just move on and forget about being a Drill Sergeant?

Although the Army has changed allot since I was on the trail, I would highly recommend Drill Sergeant Duty. It is a huge stepping stone in your career. There is a reason only a small percent of the NCOs in the Army are selected-professionalism. As to your DUI, that may be a serious game-changer in your career. As a cold war NCO, a DUI earned a field grade AR-15 and a General Officer letter of reprimand. Today's Army has changed allot so maybe you can appeal.

It is what it is. Even though it was over five years ago, HRC said that I have to wait five years from they time my background check was done. So, it will have been ten years since I got it before I'm considered a good enough leader to train soldiers.

That is pretty old, if you have had nothing since and your record is stellar as your selection would indicate, I would seek a waiver. Thank you for your service.
