So, this is probably a dumb LT question, but in my unit there is a short supply of Dog Bone cables, which have been on order now for months with supply. There is also an oversupply of W4 cables (cables used for loading COMSEC, hopsets, etc) that happen to be in a dog bone shape. We've tried using them as retrains cables with no success in either orientation. We've looked through the TMs and can't find an actual difference aside from length. My question is: has anyone had successes doing retrans with W4 cables. If so, how? If not, what are some temporary solutions I could utilize? (I'm willing to splice, solder, etc if need be).

I have made a dog bone from a W4 cable I had to cut and splice two or three of the wires inside if I can remember correctly. I found the pin out for each but can’t find it now. That is actually how I found this page. I can attest that it can be done just not sure the correct wires to cross over at the current time

W4 and Dog bone cables are not the same cable. They have a completely different pin out. Think of cat 5 cable straight through vs cross over; both are cat 5 cables, both have RJ 45s, but they only work for what it is intended to be used for.
