Why would feinstein et al push for yet another "assault weapons ban" bill ( https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/66/text?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22Sen.+Feinstein%22%5D%7D&r=6&s=5 ) before taking the time to review the latest BJS statistics that would shed light on the situation, given that not only was it started in 2016, but it was to be released and known to Congress? (BJS study - "Source and Use of Firearms Involved in Crimes: Survey of Prison Inmates, 2016" found here: https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/suficspi16.pdf )

This is demonstrable of the problem I see in modern society, in general. People with a fanatical ideology pushing said ideological beliefs onto others for the sake of power and influence.

The pushing of an "assault weapon" ban with empirical evidence that it was not only ineffectual in the past, but it's nonsensical in light of the evidence, is like pushing for laws ensuring men can no longer have menstrual cycles.

I am open to the evidence, so if you want to discuss this topic, feel free to post below, but I would respectfully ask for evidence, links and references. Thank you.

Maybe not a ban, but just some common sense guidance?

offered IMHO - The one problem that we have right now is that not all laws are enforced, but then add to that the differences between the states and their selective choice of enforcement... so that is definitely an issue that should be dealt with rather than an outright ban. That doesn't even take into consideration the vague wording of the bill (which was one reason this bill was shot down in the past - compare bills to the previous assault weapons ban and you'll see just how similar they are).

What I want to know is how can a member of Congress propose a bill that would instantly make millions of Americans criminals that makes no sense to me but what do I know I am just a law abiding citizen and veteran who owns three ars

SPC Gary Welch - I wasn't sure if you were being rhetorical, so I answered. I figured that, since you had enough respect to share your view, I should have enough to answer. I can get too analytical at times - usually I'm just a goofball and I patently avoid political discourse, but this is a topic I wanted veteran feedback from. I know a few vet's from other countries that give me very different perspectives... some are very anti-gun, and I really like getting different views on topics.
Thanks for thinking out loud

CPL James S. your good I'm the same way I try to look at both sides of the issues if people are willing to talk and not be one sided. I'm a big gun advocate but if people don't like guns that's fine with me as long as they are open to my rights too. Sometimes my humor comes off as sarcasm but that's the infantry in me
