Congrats! Speaking as an Army grunt who went AF SP, be ready for a culture shock. Like the First Shirt doesn't push troops, he's a glorified company clerk. The Superintendent or Chief is the troop pusher....

I'll be honest, Shaw is kinda in the middle of nowhere. With that said, you're less than 2 hours from Charlotte, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Columbia, 4 hours from Atlanta, 6 from Florida. Lots of hunting, fishing, and off-roading in the immediate area. All kinds of sports from college football to NASCAR within an hour.
If your willing to explore it will be worth your while. and as the old saying goes, any assignment is as good as you make it. Don't be a stranger and let us know how you're doing. As Capt Pickett related the Air Force marches to a different beat than the Army, be flexible but I know that you are well-grounded with your Army background.
