I don’t see martial law for the nation, but who knows. I do think that if they call out the NG, it will be to augment the police in large metropolitan areas, like NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, DC, Atlanta, SD, LA, SF, Seattle, and so on.

That's where the Feds have to be careful with activation, because if they are federally activated they are no longer National Guard Troops, they are Active Duty. If they are activated by the governor, the state pay for National Guard is at a different rate and not based on the rank system. But POTUS stated the feds are going to reimburse the cost of the Guard, so I am not certain if they get paid by rank and TIS, or if it is still under the state activation rate.

The internet is going crazy with martial law rumors because someone took a video of a shipment of vehicles leaving the Osh-Kosh plant in Wisconsin. As of yesterday there were roughly 1500 NG Soldiers activated, I believe another 500 or so have been activated in the last 24 hours. GEN Lengyel gave a statement that he expects the number to rise to 10,000 by the end of the weekend. There are over 325 million Americans spread across more than 3.5 million square miles. 10,000 Soldiers is nowhere near sufficient to enact martial law. The 1500 that were active across 22 states as of Thursday had the following missions:

Arkansas: Medics
California: Medical personnel, possibly engineers to build temporary medical facilities.
Colorado: Medical support
Florida: Planning and Logistics personnel and medical task force
Iowa: Liaison officers
Illinois: Medical personnel and planning liaisons
Louisiana: medical support, engineering assessment support, shelter security, traffic control point and drive-through testing site support
Maryland: Area Support Medical Companies
New Jersey: advise and assist, logistics, transportation, traffic control, security, and engineers
New York: drive-thru testing, food delivery, logistics, cleaning, and medical support
Pennsylvania: Planning assistance
Puerto Rico: COVID-19 screening at ports of entry
Rhode Island: providing response planners, liaisons and support to the state Emergency Operations Center, and logistics support

State activation is a different story, and if the MP's or any other National Guard members are activated and their to cordon off an area, assist in civilian operations, and are NOT given arrest authority, they are augmenting civilian law enforcement and it is not a violation of posse comitatus. It's just like the Coast Guard members on Navy ships and performing drug interdiction. The Navy crew going on a boarding MUST have a Coast Guardsman with them. The Navy members have no apprehension authority over the civilians, but the Coast Guardsman does. The Navy members can search the areas, and detain any wrong doers, but ONLY if a Coast Guardsman is on board, and the Coast Guardsman is in charge of the boarding party, REGARDLESS of rank.
