Am I bragging or am I complaining Back in 64 I went over as an E-3 Airmen 2nd class. I was stationed in a compound Just outside of Wiesbaden called Schierstien in central Germany along the Rhein River. We had Barracks that were used in WW2 that were our quarters. It was 2 klicks to where we worked which was not connected to any base. We had a bus that took us to work or we could drive ourselves if we owned a car. I bought an old citroen for $50 from an airman that was leaving so I drove myself to and from work. Our hours were 8 daylight hours inside as I was a photolithographer. I photographed and transcribed the photos onto metal plates for the presses to print. Yeah it was a skate Job. After work we were pretty much on our own and could leave the compound any time we were not working and that included weekends. With 2 days off every week and evenings off I indulged myself. Back then the dollar was equivalent to 4marks. Lunch time we would go sit on the river walk 2 blocks from the compound and drink Baba Beer and eat Bratwurst and watch the girls walk by on the river walk. I did a lot of traveling while there in Europe as back then we didn't need a passport as our Military ID cards were our passports. You could do and see a lot with a 3 day pass. Our commander was a Bird Colonel was on flying status and to maintain his flight pay he had to fly once a month so he would take 2 airmen with him on a 3 day juant all over Europe. I took many a trip on board the old Goony Birds. Ah yes young 20 year old foot loose and fancy free no one to worry about but me. I made E-4 While there and after 2-1/2 years transferred back stateside to Louisiana. Barksdale AFB. Another good base but thats another story for later. Yeah I'm bragging.

I luv'ed it in the field in hundred degree weather and would have to crack the seal to keep from drowning in your own sweat, ahh the good times brother ;-)
