That had to suck. My dad is still bitter.

SFC Melvin Brandenburg - I've dealt with the bitterness... it was only affecting me... not them. However, I still have my memory... and that's ok. Thanks for your comments!

SGT (Join to see) - When I retired, I told my dad that I served because of the example he set, which is what led me to military service. I stayed because it was meaningful, and it gave me a way to understand some of my dad's experience. Out of all of this what I gained most of all, an appreciation for the sacrifices he made. My experience wasn't the same, but in the sandbox when I was missing home, and thinking about my family missing me, I gained a new appreciation for the time he spent away from us and how glad he was when he returned. I don't think I would have respected that as deeply had I not followed in his footsteps. But, unlike when your generation got home, we were generally celebrated, and that will always stand as a stain on our nation's moral character. The Vietnam War generation is due so much more than has been given. I have much respect for you guys.

SFC Melvin Brandenburg Thank you for sharing your family & your life events with me... not many are that gracious. Also thank you for your kind remarks... that means a lot coming from you. Our political "leanings" may differ... & that's ok. The one thing that we have in common is our love for our country.
Again, thank you for sharing & caring .
