Just got projections to the 528th Sustainment Brigade at Fort Bragg as my first duty station. I did some research
online and found out that its part of the 1st Special Forces command which sounds interesting but concerning as well I'm new to the military and still trying to get my family settled with all that's going on in the middle east I'm worried that I'll get deployed shortly after getting there since it's special forces. My report date is October 15th and I don't have airborne in my contract but I plan to go airborne when I go to my unit. This is my first duty station coming from AIT.

My main question is does anyone have any experience being in this brigade ?

How rapid is the deployments from this brigade?
What are the differences from
an SF environment and a regular unit ?

It's not Special Forces. 1st SF command covers the five Special Forces Groups (equivalent to brigades), Psyops, Civil Affairs Brigade, the school (USAJFWSWCS or SWIC for short), and the 528 sustainment Brigade. A Sustainment Brigade is basically support people who get drawn by the main unit when they go on rotations or deployment.

Honestly, most of what you'll be doing is getting "deployed" to training exercises in different parts of the country and world. Because SF, Civil Affairs and Psyops do so many training events with different countries, the optempo is pretty high. It's an Airborne unit so they will immediately push you to go to Airborne school

Again, you're not in an SF unit, you're in an Airborne sustainment brigade and some of the missions you'll support will be with SF. But you're coworkers are all paratroopers, many from the 82nd, so be prepared to be expected to perform at 100% at all times.

PFC (Join to see) you don't know what you will be. You will be assigned, most likely, to the Signal Detachment. Forget what you've heard about "rapid deployment". When Congress comes calling and they need someone to be there right now, they are not knocking on PFC Foster's door. What you will have, most likely, is a steady stream of training exercises. A few weeks at NTC, back for a few weeks, out to Ft Pickett, back again, out to Yakima, back again, out to some country for a few weeks, and back again. The exercises you'll be attending are planned months ar even a year in advance. But SF command does A LOT of training with partner nations that you'll support

PFC Foster my advice to you is simple t go fir 1SF Group, you will experience one of the best time in your military career. They are unconventional but you are with the best of the best.

Conventional units is a outstanding unit especially with 528th sustainment brigade which fall under the 82nd airborne. They are a awesome unit yet is will never be the same as 1SF ok. Have fun and a open main golf for group..

First, you are a Soldier. You will deploy when the Army tells you to.
Second, dont get yourself all worked up over stuff that hasnt happened yet. Look at your MOS and the training you recieved...you are not there to be "tip of the spear." Your deployments will be to places that are on built up bases in secure locations...IF you get deployed.

My advice is to start looking at places on the Reaford (sp?) side of Ft Bragg off of Chicken road. I used to live on Winterland Pl, and 15 years ago it was pretty nice, easy to get onto Bragg for AM PT formation, and was a good balance between being in the boonies but close to the city part as well.
