Are there any 25A's out there who can give me honest advice and information about the Signal Corps?

PFC (Join to see) I just retired with 31 years in the Army Reserve in both Signal and Logistics branches with four specializations: 25, 53, 88, 90 from 2LT through LTC.
I can speak candidly about the good and bad of the branch, I loved it!
I work in Telecom industry now and find the industry fun as technology changes all the time.
So ask some questions and we can give some answers.

PFC Hunter, starting out you’d be a Signal platoon leader. My experience was w/Division Signal support. So, I managed platoons in both a Large Extension Node (LEN) Company & in the G6, specifically the help desk. So, I managed the careers/work of Soldiers who were LOS radio experts, hub operators, & computer techs. That’s for starters & then the # of Soldiers you manage keeps increasing. Let me know if that helps. R, LTC LaCour

LENs are for the weak! Node Centers...that's where the action's at...or a THSDN capable SEN with DCO drop...don't get a RAU though...it's a Vietnam era holdover with all the dopeheads to go with it....get them their 30 ft fill cable and forget about them...now onto the PFCs question, depends on active or reserve/national guard...also depends on how much motivation you want to bring to the job...stuck in a Battalion S6 slot as a new 2LT and your OJT is entirely up to you and what you bring to the fight...come in as a PL in a signal company and you get a bit more direction from the O3...if you aren't planning and resourcing your section/PLTs training and looking forward to the next big collective task while assisting your O3 in getting what they need done...then you're behind the curve...you'll have extra duties like UPL, EO, Investigating Officer, or UMO to name a few....more if your company doesn't have an XO, less if you're battalion primary staff....and if you get sucked up to a division HQ you'll be someone's coffee gopher and a very highly paid E4 with all the sham skills the E4 rank provides make sure to stop by the supply NCOs shop to get your sham kit. About the only thing worse than being at division as a 2LT is being an ROTC dot working for a NG unit. If you're lucky, sometime in there you'll get deployed as an LT...active duty this is way more likely...NG/Reserve you'll have to volunteer on GKO.

P.S. Hope all's well with you sir...been entirely too long since I was your XO.
