So, when it comes time for the FY 15 SFC Board, I'll be in my secondary zone. I've been on top of my OMPF since very early on, my ERB is straight, do my DA Photo...I know this seems very premature, but when and how do I go about checking my board file? I'm a very detail oriented person, so I'd like to be checking it through out the year.
I've been to the Records Portal and clicked the "My Board File" link and nothing shows, it says "No Records".
To be honest, I've never once received NCOPD about Senior Enlisted Promotion Boards. Everything I know is self-taught in that department; mainly I like what I do in the military and want to be as proactive as possible in advancing so that I can continue to serve.
Any and all advice is welcomed.
SGM Dugan thanks for the advice!
I'm very proactive with everything I do, and even if my rater doesn't keep a 2166-8-1, I do and I set my own goals and share them with my Rater and Senior Rater. I learned early on that a 1/1 NCOER without substance is worthless; my squad leader paid someone to write my first NCOER and it was full of fluff...since then I haven't settled for things like that.
This is a topic your CSM will likely cover within his Professional Developments within your unit, if not then suggest the topic. If, however, your seeking self development there are many sources available, I will drop a couple links for you below.
Something to consider is reviewing previous board AARs (early - like now) and ensure your records really are together that the ERB is error free (and consistant with the rest of your records). You are not wrong by starting at the Enlisted Promotions branch and looking there for the latest promotion board AARs, and don't stop at just the SFC selection AAR, look also at the MSG and SGM AARs as well, it's a great habit for you and your subordinates to ensure you are as competitive as you can be.
The following link to choose your CMF and it will provide some regulatory information that board members will review: http://www.armyreenlistment.com/ncopd-guide.html
Additionally, AUSA provides some good information as well: http://www.ausa.org/resources/nco/training/careeradvancement/preparingforpromotions/Pages/PreparingforCentralizednoncommissionedBoards.aspx

CSM Uhlig,
Thanks so much for the resources! I've definitely been reading through 600-25 lately as I was trying to piece all of this together. And I will definitely check the AAR's, I usually just hear some of the talking points from them but I'll be sure to read them in full.
