Without knowing both your wife and you personally, I don't think anyone on RP can answer this question. Infantry generally means significant separation. Some couples have trouble with being apart for significant periods and with others absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Do not reclass to 11b because you want something that has "progression" you will quickly learn to regret it. Find something that you will actually want to do.

I was a 71N, (currently called 88N) an MOS that most participants apparently were stationed in 9 to 5 garrison slots as I did at Ft. Ord. However, I spent a great deal of my tour in Germany away from family with 37th Trans Gp preparing for, participating in, and after actions for REFORGERs. When I returned to the states at Ft. Carson, I spent 20 of the 36 months away from home on various TDY assignments worldwide. After my six months on Big Pine II in Honduras, my DA handler said I was going to the Mideast for a year of peackeeping, then a short tour in Korea before returning to CONUS for an assignment in South Carolina. I was having an excellent career and made the 7 list (at the very, very, bottom) in 7 years. Separations put a strain on my marriage. Although I had planned at least 20 years, I served 8. Although I was elgible for SFC, I chose not to re-up and moved my family back to California to start a new civilian career. Any MOS can lead to separation from family. Select your MOS based on true interest, skills developement and future in or out of service.
