As long as the server is maintained the pictures would be preserved. How about soldiers drop them into their local FRG and unit facebook pages, then the costs are eaten by facebook and associated with a unit as opposed to an 18th Airborne Corps military historian or Public Affairs personnel trying to figure out what a picture is, what unit and who is in it and then dependent on government funding to maintain... Many ways to crack this nut.

I agree there are many alternatives, but relying on Facebook to maintain something related to the military is probably not wise. Facebook is infamous for deleting, or blocking access to pages that don't conform to their "progressive" agenda.

What a great idea. The devil, as usual, would be in the details. The submission page, or mobile app, should prompt the user for the "who, what, when, where, and why" and the story behind the photo.Otherwise, it would turn into a Pinterest, where you see interesting images, but no explanation of what the image represents.
