I report to first duty station in less than a week. I've been a reservist for almost 2 years past my apft every time, however I had an accident on a quad and was down for a couple months. Unfortunately and quite embarrassingly, I got comfortable not keeping up with regular PT. I'm not saying I'm going to fail my first active duty apft but nervous. What are the consequences if do?

You should be counseled, barred, and flagged. After that, you will be given time to correct your deficiency. You will then be given a second record APFT. Failing that will cause the Command to initiate separation proceedings.

It is also highly likely that you will get the wonderful opportunity to do EXTRA PT!!!

SGT (Join to see) - Two Record Failures within a 12 month period, yes that is grounds for separation.

First Fail (Diagnostic): Counselled. Flag for APFT failure and suspense of all favorable actions. Placed on remedial PRT
First Record Fail: Same as above except a clock starts ticking. The 12 Month Clock
Second Record Fail (within a 12 month period): Counselled. Flag. Initiation for Separation for APFT Failure.

Easy fix is to get off your Six and PRT yourself to ensure you will NOT fail.

You are all wrong there. Can't get flag on a diag PT test. Also 12 month is just for height and weight (body fat composition). You are to be separated if 2 consecutive APFTs are failed not 12 months. If you do fail the PT test you'll have up to 90 days to get back in standard and NOBODY can make you take a record APFT during tose 90 days. After the 90 days is game on and PT test can de administer at Commander's discretion.

CW2 (Join to see) - Sir, I am correct. According to AR 635-200 and AR 350-1, failure of 2 consecutive APFT Records are grounds for separation. According to the regs, yes Soldiers who initially fail a Record are given (not to exceed) 90 days before another Record can be attempted. The actual quote from AR 350-1 is "A repetitive APFT failure occurs when a Soldier fails a record test, is provided adequate time and assistance to condition (not to exceed 90 days), and fails again." If that Soldier fails that re-take, then that is 2 consecutive failures within a 12 month period. Also, since Active Duty Soldiers are required to take a Record APFT every 6 months (at a minimum), even if they fail one and then 6 months later they fail another one, then that is 2 consecutive failures in a 12 month period. That being said, yes I concede that I was incorrect in regards to Flag for failure of a Diagnostic APFT.

The consequences? If it is a diagnostic then it will be a counseling statement. If it is for record then you will get a counseling statement and likely a flag on your records meaning that NOTHING positive can happen to you at all. No leave, no promotions, no awards, no schools. You will also be enrolled in the Army's ABCF program. Failing a second for record APFT can/will result in your separation from the Army with the possibility of an RE code that prohibits or at the very least makes it real difficult for you to return to active duty.

You need to square yourself away most ricky tick. My suggestion would be to be utterly honest with your training NCO and command and double down on getting yourself back into physical fitness standards.
