APOD: 2022 September 2 - M51: The Whirlpool Galaxy

Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to a Labor Day Weekend two-fer Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD). We begin with this from yesterday (September 2nd): "M51: The Whirlpool Galaxy." Charles Messier discovered M51 in October 1773. His friend and colleague Pierre Méchain discerned the presence of companion galaxy NGC 5195 in 1781. It wasn't until the advent of radio astronomy in 1933 that imagery of M51 and NGC 5195 demonstrated that the two galaxies were interacting. M51 lies 31 million light years away in the constellation Canes Venatici.

Makes you wonder how deep the universe's images are embedded in the solidness of the planets.

You are a Wizzard Sir making these things appear out of nowhere and when we think we have pretty much seen all that is physically possible for us to see, you pull another rabbit from the hat. Although this one could pass for a snail!
