A great improvement for safety of pilot and aircraft. As article points out, it will take a bit for pilots to get used to but once they do a great improvement. Reminds me of initiating low level terrain following flight from 35000 feet in the F-111. Hit the switch and aircraft noses over, heads down and levels off at 1000 feet, hands off in less than a couple of minutes. Takes some getting used to, but what a ride once you did!

Interesting. Taking control from the pilot at a critical moment of the flight. Software glitch could be fatal.

MSgt Richard Rountree - It would be very bad to have the plane ask if you want to upgrade to Windows 10 during final approach.

But, they will take it in stride, already being adapted to pilotless airliners and driverless cars

When I was an USAF Recruiter, kids used to ask me who had the better pilots: Air Force or Navy. I would always tell them that the Navy had better pilots because they routinely land on moving targets that pitch and roll constantly. Once this so-called MAGIC CARPET system is rolled out and de-bugged, I can see where that question may become a moot point. Perhaps it'll be replaced by who has the best chow?
