Sweet hawg SSG Carlos Madden here's my best from last week- small park pond. 17 1/2 inches and estimated around 3 pounds. See if we can top it this weekend.

Someday, Marty, you’ll need to head south about a hour+ and we’ll drown some worms where you can catch bigmouths 2 and 3 times that. You’ll get hits on nearly every cast. Guaranteed or you can buy lunch!!!

SCPO (Join to see) - roger that. What lake you hitting? I found a new sand pit run off to fish this weekend. Going for crappie and perch as well. See what comes up. Hinton Iowa has a ton of small farm ponds- Smithland and Rodney do as well. Nebraska will be trying the new Kramper Lake and Buckskin is a stand by that I have never pulled anything less than 3 lbers out. Not traveling this summer for work as much so I have time....fall looks to be terrific if the heat keeps pouring it on.

Practically every Brother Mason in my Blue Lodge and in nearby towns is a farmer. I'd say half have good size farm ponds. Same goes for the fellers in my VFW and AL posts. They're all farmers with access to water somewhere.

My crappie story revolves around a former Missouri governor, later a US senator, name of Christopher "Kit" Bond. In the '80s, I was on his protection detail. Absolutely wonderful guy, with a man's sense of humour. His first wife was a commoner who married Kit for fame and fortune, and immediatly turned into a look-down-her-nose-at-everyone Bitch. Thank goodness Kit eventually said bye-bye to her. Anyhow, Kit second love in life was fishing. He loved bass and crappie. Every good Republican in the state wanted him to fish their ponds and streams. Kit sure made a good stab at it. When it came to crappie, though, we went to Thomas Hill Reservoir in north central MO, and the crappie would almost jump in his boat. Those fish loved that heated water from the power plant. Damn I miss those days, and I sure miss all the good times we had with Kit, no matter the social function or political event.

A bad day fishing is better than any other good day doing something else.
