RP Members and Connections meet one of our very own here on RallyPoint PO3 Tracy Sefcik She is a veteran of the Navy. March 2018, Tracy along with Martin J Conlon will be cycling 3,142 miles across the USA from San Diego CA to St Augustine FL to raise money to support her fellow veterans and military personnel through the Gary Sinise Foundation. Your endorsements and donations for Tracy and Martin's mission will go along way to helping veterans through the Gary Sinise Foundation. Go to here Website above and see how you can make a difference.
They will be starting their journey from the flight deck of the USS Midway. This ship has special memories of her Navy days in Yokosuka Japan, thank you for letting them start their journey aboard the USS Midway. All the donations will be going to the Gary Sinise foundation. Gary played the role of Lt Dan in the movie “Forrest Gump" and "Lt Dan Band".
Tracy had the pleasure of being in the US Navy and then she had the joys and pains of being a Navy spouse for 15 years. She also comes from a very long line of Military background just to mention a few, a 4th Great Grandfather in the Revolutionary War, a 2nd Great Grandfather being in the Civil War, an Uncle in Imo Jima while another Uncle shot down over France during WWII only to be MIA in the Korean War, and her father being in the Navy on the USS Courtney.
Tracy thought they needed to do something to support their fellow veterans and military personal. And help them with the challenges that some undoubtedly face today. So this is her way of shinning a light, and letting them know that they are appreciated for all they do for us. For their sacrifices and commitments. Tracy remembered after she returned from being stationed in Japan, she went to Washington DC, she was visiting the WWII memorial. She was was listening to two older men standing in conversation, one looking at the memorial and said “that’s the thing about freedom “it isn’t free”. Tracy has heard some similar sentiments expressed over the years. At that time and place she couldn’t help getting choked up and shedding a few tears.
While they may be the only people traveling the entire distance from San Diego to St. Augustine, there are going to be numerous people behind them, backing them up and cheering them on.
Tracy hopes that you will be one of them.
Tracy and Martin will also be cycling with Victory for Veterans Foundation in Chicago with Steve Durgin & many others on September 16, 2018 in support of BIKE22
