Interesting, too, how we tend to look back and think how silly our predecessors were in the conduct of any number of endeavors and then come to find out there was actually a lot of sense to it. Classic case was exchanging musket fire in the 18th and 19th centuries; i.e., there was a method to that perceived madness as well.
