I am on the promotion list for SFC. I have 9.5 years TIS. My conundrum is I would like to either direct commission, go green to gold, or even separate to go back to school and get a 2nd masters. I am over the age for OCS, but could get a waiver for green to gold for age. I am medical and would prefer to stay in the medical realm. I have also looked at the HPSP, but that requires me to be in a medical program.

Moving forward, is there a path where you can pin, but separate at a later date before completing the 3 year commitment to pursue a 2nd masters or med program? I don’t want to turn down the promotion, but at the same time I don’t want to get stuck with TIS and age requirements for commissioning. Is there a way you can pin, but separate for school before the 3 years? Even if I were to get out of active and not come back active, I would stay reserves and carrying the SFC rank would be awesome. Any career counselors and HRC personnel input would be awesome. Thank you!

I had a great NCO -SFC as a matter of act that today is a 1LT. He went they anseroes of admin process for his Green to Gold but at the end he got accepted. I had to signed a few documents for him but it all worked out! Just inquire with the PMS at whichever scho you are interested and see what are the current regulations.
