The cost of a battery is the same amount of money to replace both and engine and transmission. Electric still is in it's infancy. I won't advocate for electric full on yet. Instead of getting electric or a used gas car let's consider hybrids. The PHEVS are more realistic and can help lower your carbon footprint while maintaining a small electric engine.

Maj Robert Thornton I drove a hybrid Fusion for four years and other than being crap in the snow due to the battery weight over the rear wheels it was great

I haven’t had problems with my Prius V in any type of weather SFC Thomas Foreman. We don’t get a lot of snow in North GA but it is the vehicle I drive when we do.

Maj Robert Thornton I live in western PA, lots of lake effect and hills lol. But I drove that Fusion from Pittsburgh to Augusta on one tank
Also of note, the standard Ford warranty at the time was 3 yrs/36k but the hybrid specific parts (including batteries) were 7 yrs with no mileage cap
