English newspaper announces Benjamin Franklin has joined rebellion in America | November 14, 1776...

Bejamin Franklin was arguably the first American "celebrity" and likely the most famous man of his time in North America. As Postmaster General of the colonies (1753-1774), he was also one of the few men who had actually traveled to all 13 colonies before the revolution.

On November 14, 1776, the St. James Chronicle of London carries an item announcing, “The very identical Dr. Franklyn [Benjamin Franklin], whom Lord Chatham [former leading parliamentarian and colonial supporter William Pitt] so much caressed, and used to say he was proud in calling his friend, is now at the head of the rebellion in North America.”
