Yes, but then 14 years as an Intelligence NCO then Warrant Officer, integrated with linguists, cultural studies, religious studies... Hell, I think there are times I know more about Islam than most of the practitioners...

Depends on who's telling the suicide bombers what's in the Qran... because that part isn't in there anywhere.

CW2 Joseph Evans How are they able to convince so many people? It isn't illiterates and peasant class either. They seem to pull in the junior college idealistic fringe. I get uneasy even talking about it.

Take a look at what we do in America. Joel Osteen and his megachurch, Jim Baker, Falwell, James Koresh in Waco, TX... We have college students that deny evolution based on faith, despite the fact that the Bible at no point says what came in the days before God created man. There are Americans that assassinate doctors based on religious ideals.
Truth is, Islam does not have an exclusive on fundamentalist terrorism. Abortion clinic bombings, the Oklahoma City bombing, Sikh temple shooting in Wisconsin. For that matter, a number of people that rallied to Ted Bundy in NV were doing it based as much on religious idealism as anti-government posturing.
In a country with a literacy rate that exceeds 99% that still suffers from religious domestic terrorism, we don't have a lot of room to judge countries like Iraq (80% literacy) and Afghanistan (24%), regardless of their religion.

Yes it all depends on who the religious leaders area, and how many people they can convince they have direct connection to God. As much as I hear people saying we need get back to God, I don't think that is the answer total, I think people forget we have much more diverse Society than we had in 1940s and 1950s. Lot of the references to God in many cases were added during and before this time period and during the 1960s. When we worried about 10 foot tall Communists coming over and taking us over.

It not much different to being member of Political Party, there isn't no one right answer. It one of the those things it why our Founding Fathers didn't want two Party system, and didn't want our Nation to have State Religion or State Language.

I have worked with Muslims on several occasions, and I have had several very productive chats with them. BTW, when I say productive, I mean that we had a good talk, and I learned something new.

One of the first things I learned was that every one of them referred to Jesus of Nazareth as "the prophet Jesus." They did not disrespect Him, but they did not refer to Him as the Son of God.

I must admit, I miss those talks.
