Im supposed to report to my next duty station (that I reupped for) at the end of July and my unit is sending me overseas on deployment at the end of April, my wife just gave birth and had a complicated delivery. She won’t be fully recovered until June. (We have 4 kids). So why so why fly me over for such a short stay? I don’t get it...

Your unit can't send you when you're supposed to PCS. You should be placed on the Rear D UIC. You need to bring this up with your Career Counselor or else your CSM. Your unit isn't able to do an operational deletion or deferment either, that can only happen if you request it. On top of that you should be entitled to some postpartum leave as well.

Complaining about it here isn't going to change anything, you need to get out there and fix it. If someone says no, then go up higher till it's fixed.

SGT (Join to see) just remember, you have orders. Your orders state that you WILL follow your assignment instructions to your next assignment, by order of the Commanding General of HRC. Unless your Company Commander out ranks the CG of HRC, you are REQUIRED to arrive on your report date

SFC John Wade they can deploy, yes. But they also have to make sure he makes his PCS date. A unit cannot delete, defer, or alter an assignment that a Soldier has reenlisted for. Fencing has no effect on that. Fencing has to do with maintaining unit strengths. What you might be thinking of is people stabilized for the deployment. He can't be stabilized for the deployment because he's on assignment already and those dates would conflict.

SFC John Wade battalion is unable to cancel orders requested through reenlistment. The assignments are locked and the branch manager cannot change them, only Retention and Reclass Branch RRB is capable of altering the assignment. RRB will only defer the assignment if the Soldier requests to defer it through their Career Counselor. A battalion does not outrank HRC.

SFC John Wade Soldiers can and do PCS from fenced units all the time. Fencing is to prevent a unit from falling below a certain percentage. When a unit is getting ready to deploy it will give the deploying Soldiers a stabilization code with an end date of 90 days after the return from deployment. Soldiers who reenlisted before the code was applied can't be stabilized because they're on assignment. The reassignment has already been initiated. Soldiers who reenlist after the code is applied will receive a report date after the end date of the stabilization code. The units are not able to delete or defer a Soldiers report date when that assignment was generated through retention. I am the person who has to process the assignment when the deferment gets kicked back by HRC because it's a reenlistment assignment.

I would have ETS’d this Sept if I hadn’t re-enlisted

Don't regret what you’ve decided, it’ll will only make you more miserable. Priority is to get in touch with your COC and seek options. Confirm if your unit is going to defer your pcs orders.

Some times they just want to bring every warm body they can. I don't know if it's for their stats or what. When I was getting ready for my deployment to Iraq in 2004, I left 10 JAN 04, the BN CDR was trying to bring a soldier who couldn't control his body temperature. Seriously. When I took over the section I discovered that one soldier had authorization to stay home and call in every day to let the unit know that he was still alive. Iraq would have killed him. The BN CDR finally came to his senses and left him on Rear D. Anyway, as SGT Park said, check with your 1SG.
