How far does the content posted in "Updates" reach on RallyPoint?

I recently had a couple questions changed to "updates" and noticed the public reach seemed to stop with it. How far does an "Update" reach into the Really Point community?

It reaches your personal network on RallyPoint. Updates are personal in nature, and are therefore sent to people's personal contacts. Though if your contacts engage with it, then their contacts will see it too, and so on.
