As far back as I can remember there wasn't any of this form of stupidity going on, until disiplining your child at home was taken away from the parents, and authority was taken away from the schools to correct problem causers.

I came from a family of hunters. Yes even my mother loved to hunt. We had 2 hunting leases. Come the 1st of October it was game on. Now before this I was taught gun safety. This started around 8 years old. When my dad came home he taught me how to insure that all weapons we're cleared and unloaded. Every once and a while would leave a cartridge still in the mag. When I got good he then taught me how clean them. Now all of this was before I ever fired one. Truthfully I think that there should be some kind gun safety taught in school. And then watch the video tape of an autopsy because most people don't know what a little piece of metal could do to a body.

Cpl Scott McCarroll - That's were I took my hunters safety test and studied for it in school. The school counselor was former military, and a retired State Policeman.

Until about the mid 1990's school shootings were incredibly rare. Guns were easier to buy back then and just as prolific as they are today, perhaps more so.

LTC (Join to see) - Quite so, Colonel. Too that I would add the "copycat effect". All the publicity makes these unbalanced losers start thinking, "Gee! I could do something like that, and I could be famous too."
The Media should show more restraint in the publicity they give these murderers. They have to control their "If it bleeds, it leads" mentality.

Mental health, bring back hospitals for the criminally insane and those that pose a threat to society. It should be common sense that "medicating" unstable vermin while hoping the take their daily meds hasn't done society any favors.

Cpl (Join to see) - Minimally we have to stop allowing the legal system to plea serious charges down to non felonies. The felony rap would keep people from being able to legally buy a weapon at least. You are correct though, we need to stop letting the crazies roam the streets hoping they don't do too much damage.

If we do the way that the UK and Australia have done then what. The criminals will be the only ones with firearms, the liberal media and courts will say that the criminals did not get the piece of bubble gum they wanted so badly as a child and that is the reason the person turned to criminal. We ban all firearms from the public, are we then going to ban ALL chemicals that can be used for chemical weapons or explosives? This is a true multi-faceted problem. I believe that a first step is making the person responsible TAKE responsibility AND stop making excuses for their actions. A second step, is ALLOWING parents to discipline their children when the children do wrong. Third, allowing teachers to discipline in their classroom, fourth, allow prayer in school. This did not hurt me one bit. I learned more about other faiths. Fifth, stop glorifying the criminals/bad guys. I know that many people will disagree with what I have stated BUT this is just a few of the things that we can do. Like I stated earlier, this is a multi-faceted problem and we WILL NEVER fix the problem with knee jerk reactions. After all remember the Japanese Internment camps as one example. Correct me please if I am wrong that action took RIGHTS away from a hard working group of people. Remember if a person is a citizen then they have the ability to defend themselves from the criminals AND the government using their firearms. A person is a subject if the government has taken away their freedoms and rights to defend themselves. Those that say it will never happen here, look at history just from the 1930s until now. History is still repeating itself.
