My unit is telling me if I go tdy and return to ait (fort Stewart to fort sill) that I may not be authorized to drive my pov there due to it being a "safety issue". I don't know how they could get away with doing this considering my school is almost 6 months long. Is there any regulations on this matter etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regarding the "safety issue" that would be that the JFTR allows 400 miles per day driving. If they were to authorize that, they would also have to allow adequate travel time and per diem as well.

As MSG Colby stated, it could be a funding issue so as SGM Marquez says, check the SH screen or the ATRRS Course catalog at the link below. IF the SH does not prohibit you to have a POV then ask you command if you could take leave in conjunction with TDY and enter your TDY location at you leave location i.e. Ft Sill. Note, you will have to do the same for your drive home. This way, they are less likely to disapprove as they will not incur a cost; you will. Allow on your DA 31 sufficient SAFE driving time.

Michael nailed it AGAIN!

Add all that stuff up and you will still only be reimbursed what it would cost the Army to fly you there. Like I said in my PM to you, if your vehicle craps out on you or you get in an accident and miss your Report Date, you my young friend will be Fucked. (With a Capital F)

I did the same thing (Ft Stewart to Ft Leonard Wood) for MOS reclass. I drove my car per my orders (POV allowed). You'll have to find a place to park it when you get there. Ask your class NCOIC where to park it and what the rules are for driving it on post. It won't be their first rodeo on this issue. Re-classing is a normal thing.

You can never go wrong by asking your chain of command for assistance and clarity of the local policy at Stewart and Sill. You'll figure it out and do the right thing. Good luck on your new MOS.

Go to the course information on ATRRS; if you have not received a welcome letter, policies will be posted there. If the school house allows the use and/or parking of a POV, then your next step is to get in the weeds of authorization lines on your orders. If it does not specifically authorize travel by POV if advantageous to the government, you can't go that way and will need an amendment to your orders.
Next step is reimbursement for costs if you go by POV. You'll need to do the worksheet in DTS that shows the relative costs associated with modes of travel. If your CoC authorizes it, you can get up to the cost of a plane ticket for your mileage.
Good luck, SPC (Join to see). Hope this helps.
