Why do some feel the need to shout about their religion?

As of late I can't help but to see religion being screamed about the forums. That is great. I am proud you have the ability to do that but why do we some feel the need to shout how Awesome they are or to antagonize others for their perceived lack of faith. I just seems to me you want to feel persecuted. If you didn't care what others thought then why did you have to tell them in the first place?
I see so much lip service about it that it is reminds me of the pharisees. I remember something from my studies like "The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: 'God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector." Man, I can't help but to think why crazy that is to see someone say they are more awesome than someone else.
I think Gandhi said it best when he said “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

Great query. Some people are excited by the love of God. Some folks find themselves preaching and not living. Those are the sad situations. My goal is to let people see the Christ in me. If they like what they see, they will come. :-)

That is the how it should be. I commend you are on. I would rather be known as a good person then just a guy that says he is a Christian.

I'm with you on this one CPT (Join to see) , I am a believer and a Christian, but I tend to agree with Matthew 6:5 and 6:6
There is no need to make a public scene about your faith or just to be seen as religious. Rather, do it in the quiet of your room, in other words, your faith is between you and your god.
If you feel the need to be amongst your fellow believers, go to a church, which is the appropriate place for demonstrations of faith.
Proselytizing is getting old and a bit too much in RP.

And that's fine MAJ (Join to see) , the issue is when, as of late, we are having a surge of "christians" either decrying persecution, or "christians" talking down any other belief system, or "christians" willfully saying or doing things that go against their "christian tenets" in the same sentence where they claim to be "christians".
It appears to be some sort of competition now to see who is more "christian" than the next person by posting again and again.
Maybe RP should institute a way for us as visitors to choose what categories or tags we see in our feed.

MAJ (Join to see) What he is talking about is the same thing that I can't stand. It is the "Woe is me" Christian. They have life so rough. They can't post a bible quote to their government computer in a government building during the duties hours and they think the Devil is attacking them. Or if they bring it up fifty times at work and the fifty first time you tell them you don't want to hear about then know you are violating their right to freedom of religion. Those are the worst. Meanwhile, they think they are the Saints when they really don't accomplishing anything but to bring attention to themselves.

SGT Hector Rojas, AIGA, SHA point well made and how true it is. The interesting thing that people forget is that 1) God blesses the just and the unjust. 2) there will be a multitude of "denominations" in heaven.

The quick and easy (snarky) answer is "Insecurity".
But Christianity has as part of its core beliefs the urgent mission to go out and convert others-- as many as possible, as quickly as possible. They think they are offering us a chance to save our souls for eternal life, which is actually an act of compassion. From the point of view of a true-believing Christian, they are helping us out, doing us a huge favor... like reaching down to help someone clinging to the side of a cliff.
It is very difficult for them to comprehend how someone could turn away this "gift", or not see it for what it is. They may feel that their act has been treated with spite or contempt, so they get defensive. In their view, the gift of Christianity is so obvious and full of promise, only a spiteful person would turn it down.
They cannot comprehend how a lot of people in the world get along just fine without Christianity. We're perfectly happy, and in some cases I've met a lot of people who are actually *happier* without the burdens imposed on them by Christianity in particular or religion as a whole (or they adopt a different religion that they have found more meaningful).

exactly how I feel...the day I left the church for real....my life was unburdened...for me, I believe it was the right choice to make...FOR ME...my daughter, who is a devote christian...feels otherwise...I encourage her to go to her curch services, same as I do my girlfriend who is also a devote christian...religion isnt for everyone...for those who are devote and feel as though religion is the best thing for them...great...more power to them...but in my personal life...I felt it wasnt right for me...ergo, I chose no longer to believe...and my life is just as happy and fulfilling as it was (more so, actually) then when I went to Mass every saunday...

This is one of the best responses I have seen on RallyPoint. I still attend a church of which I don't care to share the affiliation. But I still don't really fall in line in what is perceived to be the popular faiths. I don't need too. I have been fine without. I grew tired of he burdens and hypocrites long ago.
