Wounded veterans gathered in Kennebunkport Wednesday for a few hours of fishing.
It's the second year Cabela's has teamed up with Wounded Heroes Program of Maine to offer the trip, as a "thank you."
"It gets them out of their own heads which is the worst place for them to be," said founder of Wounded Heroes Program, Pam Payeur.
Eleven captains sacrificed their time, their boats, and their equipment for those who themselves, sacrificed so much.

Is there a non profit willing to take anyone out just as a "thank you"? Great excursion for veterans, but since I've been around so many non profits, I wonder why? We help kids with cancer, animal rescues, and what other human caring project. What about just being kind to our fellow humans on a daily basis? All of them?

Col,
Such programs do exist. I run one myself and do so out of my own pocket. I am not always able to get as many people out fishing each year as I would like, but do sooner or later get to everyone that signed up for a trip. It just might not be the same year.
I am providing you and others with this link and offer to take anyone out that may sign up in due time.

Are you a veteran, active duty, reserve, or national guard service member? Do you like enjoy fishing? Would you like to fish for Lake Michigan salmon and trout at no cost to you? If you answered yes to all of these questions, then you have come to the right place. Hooah Salmon Fishing is a idea of one retired/disabled veteran that brings opportunity to those that are eligible to have a free day on Lake Michigan fishing for salmon and trout.

I commend you. There are many who support veterans with small opportunities and it is wonderful.
