There are several different threads on shooting here. So, with that said, does anybody here have any experience with fluted rounds? I'm asking for two reasons: First, they are legal in all 50 states (unlike hollow points--I'm looking at you NJ), and second, they seem to be damned effective as self-defense rounds. Does anybody have any first-hand experience with those rounds, and if so, what did you think of them? I know they're pricey, but then, I don't want a case of them. Thoughts?

Take This From A Long Time Shooter And A Person Who Has Been Carrying Concealed Handguns For Many Years,
Stay Away From The Fads And Stick With What Has Been Working For Many Years.
Jacket Hollow Points Are The Best Rounds For Self Defense , They Have Less Chance Of Over Penetration !
I Use Hornady Critical Defense Ammunition In All My Handguns, Everything From A .380 Up To My 45 ACP.

All my handguns, except my .22 and 45 ACP are loaded with Hornady Critical Defense ammo as well SPC James Neidig.
My 45 ACP is normally loaded with full metal jacket rounds. I carry it when bow hunting in case I have a bear encounter. I need deep penetration if the bear attacks.

James, I get your point, and that's great if you don't travel. I do. Hollow points are a felony in NJ. (Also, magazines over 10 rounds, but that's a different issue.) Fluted rounds are legal.

They're nasty looking enough but too pricey to do much field evaluation with. Sorry, not much help here.

No doubt! The price tag is very off-putting. Still, if you travel with say, two magazines, then it's not a very heavy lift. I've looked at the ballistics tests, and they appear to have a lot of stopping power, without causing any drama in some locations. (I would like to get a box just to experiment, but at a buck and a half per round (give or take), that's expensive.

That is a topic I can’t help you with. I live in GA and most folks carry hollow points.
